Objects which are farther away tend to be more difficult to keep our focus and attention on. They can be hard to spot and keep track of. Eventually, due to the difficulty, we give up trying to track it down, turning it into an out of sight, out of mind situation. We put those ideas into our rear view, never to be looked at again.
But like the mirror on your door, God remains close to you even when it seems like He's far away. He's calling us to return back to Him and to remain close. It's easier to be saved, protected, and provided for when we are closer to the one who is doing all of these things. We can hear His voice more clearly and can also speak to Him better because of our proximity.
Let's be honest. We mess up. We don't make good choices all the time. But if we stick close to the Lord, we have the opportunity to be forgiven. Remaining close allows the opportunity for change. If we move farther away from God, the source, we minimize that opportunity . Our influence of God grows smaller and smaller, much like the object in that rearview mirror.
What we surround ourselves with the most and put the most priority in will have the most influence on us. Putting God in our rearview doesn't allow for that influence because it gets put behind us and we focus on what is in front of us. As we move farther away from God, we end up only hearing of the good things He can do in others' lives rather than Him actively moving in our own. Again, it can be hard to see when we remove ourselves. And yes, God can also be working in ways that we can see but eventually He will reveal it to us.
I think we would all like to be present in the room when His works activate in our lives.
God Bless You
